Scoring Criteria
Judges shall watch each competitor and score each competitor based on the following:
- Realistic performance of kata, with correct attitude. Based in fighting terms.
- Good rhythm, timing, speed, and focus of power (KIME).
- Control of speed and rhythm.
- Correct and proper use of breathing.
- Correct focus of attention (CHAKUGAN) and concentration.
- Correct stances (DACHI) with proper tension in the legs, and feet flat on the floor.
- Stability and balance.
- Proper tension in the abdomen (HARA) and no bobbing up and down of the hips when moving.
- Control of tension and contraction.
All items that may drop a score are:
- Incomplete stances,
- lack of eye lack of focus breath/kiai
- lack of technique speed
- lack of targeting
- loss of balance
- loss of kata
Scores
- Beginner - 5.0 - 7.0
- Novice - 5.5 - 7.5
- Intermediate - 6.0 - 8.0
- Advanced - 6.5 - 8.5
Tie
- Add Low First
- Add high second
- If a tie remains, competitors must do kata again
- Beginner- Intermediate may repeat kata
- Advanced must change kata
🚨**Complete loss of kata will have judges give lowest score for that division possible. But be encouraging to competitor as this may be their first tournament.
